Mysteriously Missing the Masculine Men of the millennia
What does it mean to be a MAN?
I hear lines like "be a Man" "you da man" or adjectives like "man's man" nor "manly" on the other end of the spectrum I hear (and admittedly use) words/phrases such as "femme-boy" "metro" and "girly man."
I have been thinking about this for sometime. I've always had an opinion on the subject, but have probably come across as chauvinistic, or even worse as over-compensating.
Now before I give my opinion I am going to ask for your guy's first.
What does it mean to be a masculine man?
Now my turn. After a month or two thought I have come up with an opinion that at least has some thought behind it.
1- Passion. The bible says that David was a man after God's own heart, and aside from Christ, I cannot think of anyone in the history of the World that is/was more passionate than David.
2- Courage. Which I do believe is not the absence of fear but the will power to push through it and do what needs to be done.
3- Work ethic. A guy that can work hard, earns the respect of his fellow workers and is always able to provide for his family, no matter what the circumstances are.
4- Always learning. Learning leads to improvement.
5- Strength. Of character, of body and of mind.
6- Leader. They say to grow spiritually you need a mentor, a peer and a protege. Also, the Bible says that God has ordained man to be the head of his household. A husband that is a true leader, won't lord it.
The funny thing to this blog is that now thinking about it, a guy could be feminine to the max, and still meet this criteria. This leaves me unsatisfied, because I want to think that men have to have calloused hands, know basic mechanics, know how to drive a nail and how to gut a fish. I want to think that wearing shoes from one of those expensive shoe stores (I honestly can't think of a shoe store.... Oh sketchers?) is femmes.
This is wrong of me. These are not biblical ideals but my own. Although I believe there is still a lot of value to be able to take care a household and vehicles.
When I say that we are missing the masculine men of the millennia, I mean that media has emasculated the IDEA of manhood. On TV the only men that are depicted, are dominated by their wives, they are intelligent, they do not lead their families and neither are respected by them, and they are lazy. The role of man has been devalued.
Now popular styles are blurring the lines in gender fashions. I was blown away to meet "skater" kids and to find out that girl clothing and make-up is now "trendy." As of right now, I think this is just a minority fashion. But this confusion of genders seems to be the next rebellion. And to balance this phenomena out there is a demeaning of feminity in many women. But that is a whole other paper.
I believe in equality without a doubt, but assimilation of gender roles, is in some ways a destruction of God's ordained plan. Maybe I have gone way too far.......
Please let me know what you think.
Peace and Blessings
